Jinka University (JKU) was established on 23 October 2015  during the Second Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP II) period, with the endorsement of the Council of Ministers of Ethiopia.

Jinka University is one of the 4th generation universities in Ethiopia which consists of four colleges (namely: Agriculture and Natural Resource, Natural & Computational Science, Business and Economics, Social Science and Humanities) and freshman streams (Natural Science and Social Science).

Location:

Jinka University is located in South Omo Zone, Southern Nation Nationalities and People’s Region (SNNPR). Jinka, the zonal capital, is located at 750 km from Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, and 520 km from Hawassa, the capital of SNNPR.

Department & Colleges

JKU has stared operation with the 4 colleges and 14 departments.

The Collage of Agriculture and Natural Resources consists of 4 departments: Agricultural Economics, Animal Science, Natural Resource Management, and Plant science.

The College of Natural and Computational Sciences comprises 4 departments: Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics.

The College of Social Sciences and Humanities has 3 departments: English Language and Literature, Geography, and History and Heritage Management.

The Colleges of Business and Economics consists of 3 departments: Accounting and Finance, Economics, and Management. JKU plans to open some eight new departments within the existing colleges in 2013.

Fresh students registration date

The student service directorate will ensure the chartering and registration of all students’ organizations in accordance with the provisions of this and any other relevant laws of the country. Moreover, the office also determines whether there is sufficient ground for disciplinary proceedings and implements disciplinary decisions of units of the university empowered to entertain disciplinary matters.

Admission requirements

Anyone who wishes to join the undergraduate courses is required to meet the entry requirements of higher institutions stated by the Ministry of Education and Each University.

Graduation requirements

To graduate from the program the student should take all courses offered in the program, a total of 180 EtCTS, and earn a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.00 or better by the end of the program, and earn no ‘F’ grade in any course. The student is also required to have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 2.00 in all major courses by the end of the program.
