These textbooks are provided by the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia Ministry of Education s to improve the quality of education for Grades 6 students in government schools throughout Ethiopia.

The redesign, printing and distribution of the Ethiopian Grade 6 Student Textbook has been funded through the General Education Quality
Improvement Project (GEQIP), which aims to improve the quality of education for Grades 5–8 students in government schools throughout Ethiopia.

Ethiopian Grade 6 Student Textbooks

This course is designed for students to explore the host country of Ethiopia through a variety of pathways using a personalized learning model. Grade Six-Core Classes Students in Grade Six are required to take the following mandatory year-long classes:

English Language Arts

Using the Reading/Writing Workshop model, students will improve their comprehension, composition, spelling, punctuation and oral presentation skills. Throughout the year, students will work independently and in large or small groups on a variety of activities designed to enhance intellectual and emotional growth.

Social Studies

G6 Social Studies incorporates the four dimensions of the C3 Framework: Developing questions and planning inquiries, Applying
disciplinary concepts and tools, Evaluating sources and using evidence, and Communicating conclusions and taking informed action.

Mathematics

This curriculum provides a variety of activities to challenge each student at her or his own level. The Grade Six Math Units include Ratios & Rates, the Number System, Expressions and Equations, Statistics & Probability and, Geometry.

Science

Grade Six Science curriculum incorporates the Next Generation Science Standards and covers the content related to Matter, Climate
and Weather, Earth’s Changing Surface, Earth’s Place in the Solar System and Forces and Motion.

World Languages

Each ascending language level develops the student’s increasing fluency in speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills and overall communicative competence. Students also study the target language culture.

Physical and Health Education

Physical and Health Education courses incorporate the Society of Health and Physical Educators standards (SHAPE). All students in grades six through eight take Physical and Health Education in mixed-gender classes.

Middle School Resource provides identified students with an environment for guided study. Students will receive support in written language
skills, organizational skills, math skills and other study skills.
